Lobi Stars of Makurdi will meet Kenyan giants, Gor Mahia in the first round of the CAF Champions League.

Gor Mahia needed penalties to eliminate Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets 4-3, (5-4 on aggregate) on Wednesday. The Kenyans had won 1-0 against Nyasa Big Bullets in the first leg but the Malawians forced the tie into penalties after winning by a similar margin at home.

Gor Mahia have goalkeeper, Boniface Oluoch to thank for their progression. Oluoch saved two penalties.

For Lobi, they recovered at home to triumph over Cameroon side UMS de Loum 2-0. When the two sides met in the first leg last Wednesday, Lobi Stars lost. Ortom Boys made use of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, as Rangers were away in Ethiopia in a CAF Confederation Cup engagement with Defence Force FC. The change of venue was meanwhile sudden.

In the East African country, Gbenga Ogunbote’s boys defeated the home side 3-1 (5-1 on aggregate).

Lobi Stars needed a win with a two goal margin to guarantee their spot in the next qualification round. They got the lead through ex-Warri Wolves man, Sikiru Alimi in the 14th minute. However, they were unable to add to their lead as they head into the break.
