Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) side, El-Kanemi Warriors F.C. have announced that their Head Coach, Imama Amapakabo will not have his contract renewed following it’s expiration.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Maiduguri-based club says ‘the workload’ for Imama who is now Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr’s right-hand man following the suspension of Salisu Yusuf ‘is now too much’.
The statement reads:
“Sequel to the end of the contract between coach Imama Amapakabo and El-Kanemi Warriors FC, the management of the club has resolved not to renew the contract. This is as a result of the fact that coach is now second in command at the Super Eagles national team, and the workload is now too much for him.
“There is also public outcry that the coach hardly stays in Maiduguri as a result of his national engagement. Coach Imama is one of the best coaches in Nigeria, but then, the management had to take this decision in the interest of the team and the state at large. The management appreciate the contribution of the coach, and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. Tomorrow by God’s grace, the management will unveil a new coach”.
Amapakabo led Rangers to their first domestic title in many years in 2016. But afterwards, he fell out of favour with them. He then joined El Kanemi in a deal that made him the highest-paid Nigerian league coach.
