Plateau United forward, Amos Gyan has nothing but praise for newly-appointed Technical Adviser, Abdu Maikaba.
Maikaba was unveiled as the new boss of the Nigerian Profesional Football League ( NPFL) side on Friday, and Gyan is thrilled.
“Coach Maikaba is a great coach. He is not just a coach, but also a father. And he has this winning mentality,” Gyan says in an exclusive chat with Top Media Nigeria.
Asked what he would miss most about ex-gaffer, Kennedy Boboye – the man who signed him from Kano Pillars, Gyan simply put: “A lot about him.”
On how the two coaches compare, the former Giwa FC and Kano Pillars man states: “They both possess winning mentality and are massive coaches.”
Boboye and Maikaba – who both have national team jobs – are two of the finest tacticians currently in the land.
Maikaba stirred The Promise Keepers to glory at the last Aiteo Cup. Plateau United on the other hand failed to go past the group stage of this year’s Aiteo Cup after they were upstaged by Katsina United. Although, they did win the NPFL title in 2017. The Peace Boys have lost several top stars this past season. Hence, Maikaba might be looking to reinforce in order to challenge genuinely again.
‘We’re here to do the double’ – Maikaba
Meanwhile, the 53 year old is targeting the domestic double next season with the Jos-based club. His first hurdle is to win the NPFL title: “The first challenge is to reclaim that trophy. The second challenge is to make sure we win the other trophy, which is the Aiteo Cup. So we are here to do the double.”
Maikaba will reportedly earn a whopping N52 milion in two years in his new job.
Furthermore, the respected trainer who used to be at the helm at Wikki Tourists says he is humbled by his fresh appointment and promises to do his best to justify the confidence reposed in him .
