Head Coach of the men’s senior National basketball team, Alex Nwora, and son, Nwora Jordan, are in line to make history as the first family in Nigeria to have father and son in the national team at the same time.
Jordan, the University of Louisville, USA, player, has been named in the final team list for the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers taking centre stage this weekend.
The final 12-man list was announced at the team’s last training session on Thursday.
Top on the list is Team Captain and Sinchuan Blue Whales of China’s Ike Diogu and Emenago Obinna Clinton of Rouen Basket in France.
Speaking on the D’Tigers‘ readiness, Coach Nwora said the team is as ready as they can be as they look forward to a great match against Uganda tomorrow (Friday)
“It’s going to be a good test for us tomorrow but hopefully we will be victorious tomorrow.
“We played them before. The last time we played them, they gave us a lot of problem. Now, they have newer players who did not play in the second window,” Nwora states.

This is the first time the national team will be playing its world cup qualifiers at home. They take on Uganda on Friday, before tackling Rwanda on Saturday, and ending with Mali on Sunday.
Captain, Diogu, wants to thrill Lagos fans
Meanwhile, team captain, Ike Diogu speaking after their last practice before their campaign against Uganda gets underway on Friday at the renovated Indoor Sports of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, Diogu is optimistic that fans can provide magic wand to steer them to success.
“This is our last practice before the big show starts where we will play in front of our fans and we are looking forward to having a good tournament.
“No pressure at all, we are just going out there to play the right way and hopefully, we can come out with 3 victories and the goal is to get one of these world cup tickets.”
Furthermore, the D’Tigers leader explained that the team is excited by the prospect of debuting at the world cup.
“I have never been to the world championship and it’s an exciting challenge which we have all accepted.
“I was happy to play last year at the African Championship and be injury free. In 2015 even though we won, I was injured. So, to be able to take the young ones as far as we did is a blessing. We are looking forward to qualifying in front of our home crowd,” he concludes.
