Harrison Emefiena Gwamnishu was born on July 17, 1989. He had his primary education at Enugu Iyi Primary School Ubulu-Uku before proceeding to Santa Maria College Ubulu-Uku. A National Examination Council Certificate holder and current Mass Communication student at ISTM University Togo, Gwamnishu was a former Awaiting Trial Prisoner, incarcerated in prisons in Nigeria where he spent four years.

During his detention, he started advocating for poor prison inmates by contributing money for their medical treatment and paying legal fees.
In 2015, Harrison was discharged of all four-count charges from a Delta State High Court, Asaba.
After he was released from custody, he led a platform to rescue and rehabilitate innocent youths he left behind in prison. He became the Delta State Coordinator of Stephen and Solomon Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO). He was also appointed State Coordinator of Joint Legal Action Aids, a Human Rights Advocacy Group.
Harrison was among the young African leaders honoured with the prestigious Mandela Washington Fellowship award in the United States where he studied Civic Leadership at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey.
He returned to Nigeria from the United States and founded Behind Bars Initiative (BBI), a Human Rights Organization with more than 1000 volunteers providing support, and free legal services to victims of Human Rights abuse.
His BBI has facilitated the release of more than 1000 unlawfully detained persons from the hands of security agencies and working relentlessly to change the system that allows these abuses to continue.
