The Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers (NIEE), Lagos state chapter, Engr. Yusuf Majolagbe has applauded the Lagos state government on its efforts in waste recycling – the collection of waste materials and the separation and clean-up of those materials.
TOP MEDIA reports that Majolagbe made this commendation while speaking at the Lagos State Government’s World Environment Day 2023 Celebration held on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa Ikeja.
The event was put together to encourage awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
Majolagbe said:
“Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste escapes into the oceans from coastal nations. That’s the equivalent of setting five garbage bags full of trash on every foot of coastline around the world, and this actually creates a lot of havoc on our ecosystem.
“We have come here today to celebrate our sheer commitment to environmental sustainability and to reflect on the urgent issues of plastic solutions.
“I must commend the Lagos state government for their remarkable efforts in ensuring that we are able to recycle our wastes.”
Majolagbe honoured
Meanwhile, on the same day, Majolagbe received an award of recognition from Dr. Gbolahan Afeez, the Councilor of Wastes Management Society of Nigeria (WAMASON), Lagos Council.
He picked up his award at the World Environment Day 2023 Celebration by the Federal Ministry of Environment. The ceremony was in collaboration with the WAMASON Lagos Council and held at the Federal Ministry of Environment Auditorium, Surulere, Lagos.
