The Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), has formally reprimanded Dr. Anthony Agbegbedia, a lecturer in the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, following allegations of sexual harassment by multiple students.
This decision was disclosed in a circular signed by Mufutau Ibrahim, dated November 5, 2024, according to FIJ.
The university management reviewed the findings of an investigative panel on allegations against Dr. Agbegbedia and issued him a warning for unethical behaviour, as per Section 8.8(ii) of the university’s revised staff regulations.
Students accused Dr. Agbegbedia of demanding sexual favours in exchange for grades. One accuser, who chose to remain anonymous, told FIJ that her graduation was delayed in 2021 after she rejected his advances.
Another student claimed she failed his courses for two semesters after refusing his propositions in 2023, further alleging that her name was omitted from the university’s graduation list in 2024.
Despite these accusations, the university promoted Dr. Agbegbedia to Associate Professor while stating that the allegations were under investigation.
The affected students and their families have raised concerns about the lack of resolution to their cases. One victim reported receiving no update on her graduation status as of Friday.
