Militants suspected to be members of the Biafra Nations League (BnL) have captured a gunboat believed to belong to the Cameroonian military in Bakassi Peninsula.
TOP MEDIA reports that around 4:45 PM on Wednesday, armed militants opened fire on troops guarding a Brazilian vessel that broke down in Atabong East area of the region, killing one of the Bataillon d’Intervention Rapide (BIR).
The troops were said to have been overwhelmed and fled, abandoning one gunboat.
Meanwhile, the leader of BnL, Princewill Richards, said he was not sure who the attackers are, but warned that the actions of the people proved they are no longer comfortable with both Nigeria and Cameroon. According to him, there won’t be peace in the Gulf of Guinea unless there is an independent Biafra.
