Barrister Umar Imam, a former chairman of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN), Kwara state chapter, says several persons who Azeez Adegbola popularly known as Tani Olohun, allegedly defamed were responsible for his arrest.
Speaking in a recent Facebook Live programme, monitored by TOP MEDIA, Barr. Imam stated that embattled Isese blogger, Tani Olohun, “has just started and has not seen anything yet”.
His words:
“The police also have a case with him; he made series of injurious remarks against them.
“The Muslim faithful’s case is there; (and) the police also came up with theirs.”
The lawyer continued:
“We want everyone to understand that he was not arrested because he abused Allah (God) or Prophet Muhammed.
“We intend to sanitise our society. The norm of people using social media to defame others will be tackled. If you defame someone on social media, the court will invite you to come and prove your claims.
“We are lawful, that’s why we approached the court. Because if there is no court, we are heading towards anarchy.”
Barrister Imam also criticised internet users who are fond of asking people averse to alleged provocative acts not to judge. He queried, “Why then do we have courts and government?”
Furthermore, he blamed the actions of Tani Olohun and other agitative social media personalities on alcoholism.
Meanwhile, following a hearing on Wednesday, the court in Ilorin remanded Tani Olohun in prison till September 4.
