Nigerian journalist Aliyu Dahiru has accused Access Bank of blocking his account without legal justification and failing to safeguard it from external interference.
Dahiru’s accusations were made public in a series of tweets where he expressed his frustration and disappointment with the bank’s practices.
“Why should I trust @myaccessbank with my data if they can’t even protect my account from external manipulation? Any staff with the bank can illegally block your account just because he knows someone, even without a court order. All he needs is a phone call. Outrageous, isn’t it?” Dahiru tweeted.
In response, Access Bank reached out to Dahiru on Twitter, stating, “Hello @Aliyussufiy, I am concerned about your post and would like to address the issue. Kindly engage us via DM in order to assist further.”
Dahiru replied, stating that the bank didn’t take prompt action despite his efforts to resolve the matter privately.
“I’ve been reaching out to you via DM since yesterday. I even sent you a long email, but here I am still battling to get the restriction on my account lifted even though the restriction was done illegally and without my permission. I think you are forcing me to take legal action.”
As of now, there has been no resolution or update regarding the issue.
