Former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo is charging the youths to take charge of their future and not wait for the government.

Yobo says success is not guaranteed with talent alone.

The 37 year old discloses he is setting up a sports academy where talent and education will be married.

“I think, as a country, you don’t expect the country to do everything for you. I didn’t expect the country to do everything for me.

“Private sectors need to come in.

“I am setting up Joseph Yobo Sports Academy. That’s serving those that have talent, merging with education.

“So, you can’t neglect anything. Education is as important as the talent. So, if you have the talent (and) you don’t go to school, that’s wrong. If you go to school and neglect your talent, that’s wrong. We need to find a perfect blend to be sure that you actually reach your goals and achieve what you want to be in life. So, that’s what the Joseph Yobo Sports Academy is all about,” Hip TV reports.

Illustrating the importance of sticking to local talents, Yobo opines: “I think it’s a systematic problem. If you look at the national team we have, I think from Under-15 or Under-13. So, they actually get them from young. But as they progress, what do you do with them? That’s another issue.”

The former Everton man continues: “And then, continuity. You know, there must be a platform not just to raise the talent. And that’s why I’m doing what I’m doing.

“But overall, not everybody is gonna make it with their talent. That’s why education is paramount. Education is key. It is important. So, you have something to fall back on. But for those that have the talent, like we see in all sectors, you know, talent (only) doesn’t make you excel. And not everybody that makes it. So, you should have something to fall back on.”
