First half goals at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kano was the outcome of Sunday’s high-profile Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Group B clash between Kano Pillars and Akwa United.

Chris Madaki’s 42nd minute header for Pillars cancelled out Ndifreke Effiong’s goal for the visiting team.

Kano Pillars is one of the most successful team in the land, while Brazilian, Rafael Everton’s men are hot favourites for the league considering their assemblage of players.

Everton made five changes to the team that kick-start the season in Uyo. Cameroonian goalkeeper Jean Efala made his first start for his new team replacing Ojo Olorunleke in goal. Youngsters, Etboy Akpan and Ubong Essien were prefered to Wilson Elu and Emeka Atuloma while Adou Blaise and Kodjovi Dadzie were handed their first start of the season.

It was an engaging first half in which both teams created and wasted lots of chances.

As much as both sides wanted maximum points, the spoils were eventually shared.

Heartland shoot to the summit after two wins, same points with second placed El-Kanemi Warriors who however have lesser goal difference.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah are third with five points,  while Go Round FC, Kano Pillars and Plateau United are all one point less.

Kada Stars record victory in their first match in the top flight.

Meanwhile, Kwara United displaced Enyimba at the top of Group A. They beat the two-time African champions 3-2 in a thriller.The Harmony Boys are now a point better than the People’s Elephant while Wikki Tourists, conquerors of Niger Tornadoes climb to No 3.

Furthermore, newly-appointed Remo Stars boss, Kennedy Boboye could only settle for one point at home against Bendel Insurance.
