Nigeria have sealed passage into the semi final of the ongoing Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) after hammering former champions, Equatorial Guinea 6-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium in Ghana on Saturday.
Africa soccer queen, Asisat Oshoala hit a treble while goals from Francisca Ordega, Desire Oparanozie and Rita Chikwelu completed the onslaught.
Super Falcons took the lead through Ordega in the 10th minute. Then, 3 minutes later, Oshoala extended Nigeria’s lead off an assist from Oparanozie.
Oshoala – who was wasteful in the last match versus Zambia – found her scoring boots and scored another goal. She made it a hat-trick in the 34th minute.
Already on a comfortable lead before halftime, Desire Oparanozie got on the score sheet just three minutes after restart.
Chikwelu made it 6-nil at 63 minutes.
Nzalang Nacional were a late replacement for Kenya for the AWCON. The two-time champions were initially disqualified for fielding an unqualified player during the qualifiers. However, they appealed the decision and CAF ruled in their favour on the eve of AWCON.
Thomas Dennerby‘s women qualify from Group B to the last four alongside South Africa. Bayana Bayana drew 1-1 with Zambia in the other group game to finish as group leaders.
