Super Eagles of Nigeria defender, Chidozie Awaziem is an athlete who is enjoying steady rise.
In late 2013, the young footballer treasured pictures with Super Eagles midfield maestro, John Obi Mikel, Chelsea’s Victor Moses and co. Fast-forward to 2018, Awaziem is in Nigeria’s preliminary squad for the biggest football tournament in the world – the senior FIFA World Cup!
The 21 year old is presently in the Super Eagles camp in Uyo preparing for the Russia tourney after a fair season with Nantes who finished 9th in the French Ligue 1.
Interestingly, Awaziem did not play any level of league football locally before joining parent club, Portuguese giants, FC Porto – a club he made his league debut against arch-rival, Benfica.
A scout spotted him during a programme in Nigeria, termed Gee-lec football talent hunt put together by Ramp Football Agency.
He told Own Goal last year: “Playing alongside him (Mikel) to some of us is enough reason to put in your best because few years ago we were watching him on television for Chelsea. You can’t afford to give less when he is giving all.”
Indeed, Awaziem is living a dream!
