Troops of the Rapid d’intervention Battalions (BIR) have launched an airstrike at Ine Mba forest in Idabato subdivision of Bakassi Peninsula, targeting militants of the Black Marine.
The troops’ target is a separatist group purportedly loyal to the Biafra Nations League (BnL).
TOP MEDIA understands that the attack was carried out around 7am on Friday, September 8.
It was learnt that the militant group attacked the troops during their operation in the Gulf of Guinea.
According to local sources, two helicopters hovered around the sky dropping explosives and destroying the militants’ forest-based camps.
Reacting, Henry Edet, the Operational Coordinator of the BnL, said he was not sure if anybody was killed. He, however, confirmed that the Black Marine’s camp had been destroyed by the airstrikes.
