2023 Election: Rescue Lagos Team Pens Open Letter To Residents, Urges Unity

With election-related ethnic tension a top concern for well-meaning Nigerians going into the March 18, 2023 election, a youth-inspired movement with a mission to create a credible alternative, youth political emancipation and promote good governance, Rescue Lagos Team, has urged residents of the state to stay united.

TOP MEDIA reports that the Rescue Lagos Team’s open letter was published on Saturday, and according to their conveners, it became necessary following the creeping Igbophobia in popular social media discourse, apparently encouraged by the tenacity of many of Peter Obi’s Igbo supporters.

Obi is the president candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25, 2023 election. Although the former Anambra State governor didn’t win the February 25 election, he historically won Lagos State, beating a colossal politician who is a former governor of the state, Bola Tinubu. Tinubu is the president-elect of Nigeria.

Rescue Lagos which said it doesn’t key into the concept of godfatherism, called on all faiths and tribes to be “calm and resolute” in the face of online attacks.

It praised Lagos as an accommodating state as well as being Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre.

The group, which supports the candidature of Tope AbdurRazaq Balogun, the Lagos State governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), also paid tribute to the Nigerian values of “tolerance and respect”.

Their letter reads in full: “Action Alliance’s plan to bring comfort to the populace is all-encompassing.

“The party plans to include every Lagosian, regardless of ethnicity, in a government of national unity. With that, we were able to ensure unity.

“Youths and all tribes in Nigeria will have the opportunity to be represented in the cabinet of an AA government in Lagos.

“As a cosmopolitan city, Lagos state is blessed with lots of resources and it deserves the best among the rest. Willpower and contentment are two exceptional qualities of the leadership that can help Lagos develop to its full potential, and the AA candidate has it.

“Don’t let them use ‘verbal-coding’ and propaganda to hold you down by playing tribal cards in a city that has people from all works of life.

“We need a passionate duo of Tope Abdurrazaq Balogun and Mautin Oluwatosin Salako to give us the new Lagos we deserve through their REBIRTH Agenda.

“Let’s vote AA to achieve the extraordinary while leaving undue sentiments promulgated by the ruling party to keep themselves in power even when they don’t have the ability to bring the needed comfort to the masses.

“Let’s vote AA on March 18 so we can get all the above in truth.”
