The General Manager (GM) of the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), Engr Adefemi Adedimeji Afolabi, has said efficient wastewater collection and recycling programmes are vital for cleanliness.
TOP MEDIA reports that the state wastewater management boss spoke during the technical session with members of the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers (NIEE), Lagos Chapter, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
He did justice to the topic, “City-wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS): Lagos Sanitation Stakeholders on Call.”
Identifying inclusive sanitation strategies for the phenomenal city of Lagos, Afolabi pointed out that behavioural change among Lagosians is necessary to ensure sustainable improvements in sanitation practice. Experts are also urged to encourage community involvement in waste disposal operations.
Engaging communities, he said, is crucial for the success of inclusive sanitisation.
If sanitation is prioritised, public health will be ultimately improved, Afolabi noted.
Majolagbe charges govt on smooth implementation of the Lagos State WASH policy
Meanwhile, during the event, Engr. Yusuf Majolagbe, the Chairman of the NIEE Lagos State chapter, encouraged the government to work on the smooth and absolute implementation of the Lagos State Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) policy.
In March 2024, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, approved the Lagos State WASH policy.
Majolagbe said:
“I would like to use this medium to charge the Lagos State Government through its various arm of government domiciled in the environment sphere to work on the smooth implementation of the Lagos State WASH policy in totality.
“As always, the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers Lagos State Chapter with her team of Sanitation Stakeholders is here today with utmost readiness to partner with the relevant authorities in ensuring the Lagos State WASH policy is fully implemented towards a cleaner and liveable Lagos.”
