Nigerian Twitter users have taken to their various handles to react to a Guardian newspaper report from the 90s which put president-elect, Bola Tinubu‘s age at 52.
TOP MEDIA reports that Tinubu celebrated his 71st birthday on Wednesday, but for some time, his age has been a subject of controversy.
In March 2021, when he celebrated his 69th birthday, screenshots of a Wikipedia page showing his date of birth as 29 March 1942 started circulating online.
That would have made him 79. People inevitably started to claim he had shaved 10 years off his real age.
The Wikipedia screenshots and claims that Tinubu was an age cheat were posted on Twitter in response to a birthday tweet by Lagos governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The controversy resurfaced in January 2022 when the former governor of Lagos State declared that he would run for president. And it did not abate as critics are resharing the old Guardian newspaper to argue that the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain is around 77 years old.
