Ismaila Mabo, a former Nigeria central defender and ex-Super Falcons coach, is dead.
Mabo’s family confirmed his death on Monday morning in a statement sent to TOP MEDIA.
Their statement reads: “Innalillahi wa innah ilayHi raji’un. The family of Alhaji Salihu Nakande announces the passing of our brother, Coach Ismail Muhammad Abubakar, alias Ismaila Mabo Nakande in the early morning hours of 13th March, 2023 at the age of 80years. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Ameen.”
This news medium learnt that late Mabo had been ill for sometime.
Apart from being a renowned coach, Mabo made his name as a professional football player with Mighty Jets of Jos.
He coached the Nigerian women’s team, the Super Falcons to their best-ever outing at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1999 where they reached the quarter-finals.
