Top seeds, Egypt claimed their third consecutive men’s World Squash Team Championship title with a 2-0 win over England in New Zealand.
TOP MEDIA reports that of the 24 participating teams, Nigeria finished 15th.
With the placement, the best squash-playing West African nation moved from 21st position in 2019 to 15th at the 2023 edition.
Many Nigerian squash stakeholders adjudged the placement of the country as commendable.
The competitiveness of the tournament in New Zealand was high. Matches were very tense and rallies were close, as acknowledged by Egypt coach, Hesham El Attar.
El Attar said: “As everyone knows, as we saw in the matches it was very tense and rallies were very close.”
Nigeria was grouped alongside Japan and Switzerland for the championship. The tournament took place in Tauranga, from Monday, December 11 to Sunday, December 17, had Nigeria in Group D.
Team Nigeria’s members are Babatunde Ajagbe, Onaopemipo Adegoke, Olufunmilayo Gabriel, and Kehinde Samuel. The country’s contingent in the global tournament beat Japan and South Africa.
