A former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose and Arise Television news anchor, Rufai Oseni, got into a heated argument during a live interview on Thursday.
TOP MEDIA reports that Fayose was invited as virtiual guest to speak on post-2023 election matters. The ex-governor’s meltdown on Arise TV started when Oseni questioned him about a secret recording in which he was involved in electoral fraud.
It would be recalled that in the build-up to the 2014 election in Ekiti State, an Army officer, Capt Sagir Koli, recorded the voices of Fayose; former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro; then-Police Affairs Minister Jelili Adesiyan; erstwhile Osun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Iyiola Omisore; and Brigadier-General Aliyu Momoh allegedly strategising on how to use soldiers to manipulate the election. Fayose won that year’s election.
Oseni made a flashback to that incident, apparently banking on media reports to say that Fayose admitted that his voice was one of those heard in the rigging audio clip.
But the former Ekiti governor took serious exception. He said: “Nobody has proven that. Yes, I can be recorded, but nobody would ever say to you that I said they should go and rig an election.
“And I want to say to you, I have avoided touching on this area, but we are talking about Nigeria. Let us start with the press and let us start with your person. You would recall the incident on the bus lane and your attack on the police. That shows that you as a journalist is not obeying the law. And he that must come to equity must have clean hands.”
