Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, an Ijaw activist, has declared that he has decided to be at the forefront of the fight against Biafra, “because it is not even in the interest of the Igbo people”.
Speaking during a Facebook Live on Friday, June 23, monitored by TOP MEDIA NIGERIA, the former separatist said he is quarreling with IPOB supporters “based on morality and truth”.
Asari Dokubo: Separatist turn nationalist
Dokubo-Asari, a former leader of the banned Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), campaigned for the independence of the Ijaw people in the past.
As far back as more than 17 years ago, he called Nigeria an artificial state.
“I will fight to see that Nigeria remains the same.
“Because in your Biafra, you come to tell me that there would be no Muslim, and I am a Muslim, and I’m a major stakeholder.
“Islam is the most important thing to me in this world and in the hereafter.
“I have decided to work with other Igbos to make sure that this nonsense about Biafra comes to an end.
“I will be in the forefront to fight against Biafra, because it is not even in the interest of the Igbo people.
“Biafra does not belong to the Igbo people, Biafra is basically a Kalabari name, and by extension, and Ijaw project.”
He added:
“In 2021, I decided, without resignation, to walk away from the Biafra struggle. I didn’t quarrel with anybody.”
Furthermore, Dokubo said that the now-incarcerated leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), propelled him to dump Biafra with his infamous announcement of a bounty on then Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike, in 2020.
“Nnamdi Kanu provided an opportunity for me to reconcile with the government of Muhammadu Buhari, because if he had not made that pronouncement against Wike, maybe the government of Nigeria will not see my capacity,” Dokubo said.
