FACT CHECK: Viral Pictures Of President Buhari Chopper Stoning From Kenya

On Monday, some youths pelted the helicopter and advanced motorcade of President Muhammadu Buhari with stones during the Nigerian leader’s visit to Kano State, North West zone, TOP MEDIA reports.

President Buhari was departing Zawaciki region to the Emir’s palace when young boys aimed stones at the chopper which was already airborne.

CLAIM

Several online users shared pictures of a vandalised helicopter and claimed it was the aftermath of the attack on the president.

The images were shared on blogs and social media platforms: Facebook and Twitter.

CHECK

A reverse image check by TOP MEDIA on the said images showed that the pictures are from the April 2022 stoning of the convoy and helicopter of Raila Odinga, a former prime minister of Kenya.

Odinga’s convoy was stoned in Kebenes, Soy Constituency, Uasin Gishu County.

Raila had attended the burial of Jackson Kibor, a prominent politician and businessman, and was scheduled to address mourners when the incident happened.

VERDICT

Pictures depicting President Buhari’s damaged helicopter windscreen are false.
