Nigeria No.1 squash player (women), Rofiat AbdulAzeez, on Saturday profusely thanked the Kwara State government for gifting her a car at the Kwara State End of Year Merit Awards Ceremony.

In an exclusive chat with TOP MEDIA, AbdulAzeez said Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq truly surprised her and other outstanding Kwarans.

In history, Kwara state is arguably the leading state when it comes to squash in Nigeria.

Following online voting, AbdulAzeez was named the Kwara Athlete of The Year at the state End of the Year awards ceremony which held at the Atlantic Event Centre in Ilorin, the state capital.

The 20-year-old had clinched three out of the four gold medals won by Kwara State at the recently-concluded National Sports Festival in Delta State.

She was also part of the Nigerian team that finished third last month at the 2022 Africa Seniors Championships in Zimbabwe.

“I really and seriously appreciate the Kwara State government. I didn’t see this coming at all.

“A new car was not even in my dream in the next three years.

“People thought I ‘wasted’ my medals for Kwara State at the last festival, but the governor truly amazed me and others.

“I’m happy to end this year with memories,” the obviously elated athlete told TOP MEDIA.
