[#ICYMI] Alleged Cultism: Court Discharges, Acquits NANS Official, Adegboye Olatunji

Adejuwon Emmanuel Adegboye Olatunji popularly known as Teejay, the incumbent Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest zone D, has been discharged by the Ogun State Magistrate’s Court, Abeokuta.

TOP MEDIA recalls that the NANS official was in 2020 accused of association with cultism. However, according to a court document obtained by this news medium on Thursday, he has since been discharged and acquitted by the court on June 23, 2021. This is the first time a media organisation will make public this update.

Olatunji was exonerated of the three-count charges preferred against him and another defendant.

In February 2020, Olatunji, alongside one Olarewaju Taiwo, was arrested for allegedly aiding cultism and supervising the initiation of new members into the cult.

At the time, Olatunji was the president of the Student Union Government (SUG) of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (FPI), Abeokuta.

The police in February of that year said the two students were arrested following a tip-off that some persons suspected to be cultists were sighted in a bush at Gbogidi area of Ilaro where they were initiating new members.

The two persons arrested in full regalia of the dreaded Black Axe cult group were remanded in police custody at the Ilaro Divisional Headquarters.

Although Olatunji proclaimed his innocence, he was suspended from the school on February 11, 2020, over the incident.

Subsequently, in July 2020, the management of the Polytechnic reinstated him.

According to the institution, the reinstatement of the student leader was based on the intervention of the Ogun State government.
